SES - First day

Pidgin Technologies in SES (Search Engine Strategies). Having it makes sense that we will be here I think.
Although the show started yesterday, this is our first day of the show. Mainly covering the expo hall. The show is in Chicago.

First of all, allow me to say... It is FREEZING here. 10 degrees fahrenheit. Not really the right weather for walking around with a tshirt actually better not walk the streets at all at this weather

Although this show is a bit smaller than the San Jose one, it is a lively one nonetheless.
Missed yesterday's seminar about Brand tracking where BoardTracker was mentioned in relation to tracking message boards for brand

Met a few companies we work with, including PRWeb. It was nice to meet Mario Bonilla and Mick Jolly (the VP of PRWeb). If you don't know PRWeb, they are a PR newswire agency. You can use their services for sending a PR, either directly from their site (for free or for a small fee) or use their additional services that include among other things, proof reading and polishing of PRs, SEO for PRs and even entire PR writing services.

Also met Peter Prestipino from WebSiteServices magazine. A brand new magazine for website owners. Congratulations on the first issue.

Google showed up with a booth for both google and google analytics. A bit small, but adequate. Yahoo showed up with a bigger booth and so did MSN search. Seems like Microsoft's presence here is only with MSN search. Considering that this is an SES show, it makes sense I guess. But compared to the San Jose show where their booth was much bigger it's seems a bit small.

Met Darrel Smith II from Yahoo. He is doing Partnership Marketing. One thing we will try to acheive is cooperating with Yahoo on trying to supply BoardTracker's members with Yahoo messenger alerts in addition to the Jabber alerts. Hopefully we will be able to follow up on this and get it to work.

Got interviewed by Darron Babin on Webmaster radio. If you don't know webmaster radio check it out. It has a great variety of radio shows catering to webmasters and site owners. Great site with good shows and excellent hosts.

Second day tomorrow.. Hopefully I will be able to shake off the Jetlag by then

New hardware being installed now with go faster stripes!

We've been installing some new hardware today.. first of all a new switch with 1G on all ports which is nifty and makes things like backups and replication go much faster since server to server traffic zips along nicely now.

Also we installed a new primary db server for BoardTracker and we just finished moving all the data - bet you didn't even notice since the site stayed online and fully functional throughout.. nifty! Right now as I type this we are replicating to all the slave servers..

In case you are wondering why our overworked and underpaid spiders are slacking at the moment this is the reason..

We also have a bunch of fancy blade servers coming as soon as the Dell factory can get them shipped to us however they say that will take a few weeks..

Anyway, that concludes todays extra geeky blog entry..

New board owners admin tool for BoardTracker

We just released a very cool new admin control panel type thing for BoardTracker which allows board owners to categorize their forums for indexing and generally provides them with more control over their forum content and their boards inclusion in BoardTracker.

This tool will also enable boards to be added and indexed by BoardTracker much quicker so expect the BoardTracker index to grow faster soon.

Of course the most important thing is it uses AJAX so it is totally hip and cool and seriously funky..

Remember last time when I mentioned we have something new coming soon? Well first of all this new control panel is not what I was referring to even though its very nifty.. the new thing that is coming soon will eclipse this (and everything else!) and when I say it will make waves, I am talking tsunamis!

Am I hyping this enough? Are you intrigued?

We're adding lots more hardware in preparation for some major growth soon and we are now aiming for 100M threads in the not too distant future..

Also, we have something new coming soon.. its very cool and its going to make waves.. but for now its all top secret so don't tell anyone..
